With the 2016 NFL season finally behind fans after the New England Patriots impressive comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons at Super Bowl LI, the league is now officially in the offseason and teams will be planning for next year.
The Oakland Raiders, despite an early exit in the playoffs, are still considered to be one of the best teams heading into the 2017 season. According to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area, Bovada has the Raiders in the mix for next year’s Super Bowl:
The Silver and Black have 16-to-1 odds of winning the Super Bowl next year, tied for sixth in the NFL with the Broncos, Vikings and Seahawks. That number comes courtesy of Bovada.com.
As with most betting odds, they can change depending on the moves a team makes prior to the regular season but for now, having the sixth best odds sounds about right for the Raiders. Derek Carr is reportedly on track with his recovery after breaking his fibula and their odds could change depending on his level of play after returning.
While much of the news surrounding the Raiders recently has been about their potential move to Las Vegas, there are plenty of questions about the roster that management will have to answer. Determining which free agents to re-sign and which ones to let walk will be crucial if this team wants to continue building upon last season’s success. Carr’s impending contract situation will make it difficult for the team to shell out for impact players and thus will have to be careful where they spend.
The Raiders will have plenty of decisions to make, so it will be interesting to see if 16-1 odds holds up.
