NFL Rumors: Raiders Hoping For Las Vegas Relocation By 2020

After the San Diego Chargers officially relocated to Los Angeles this offseason, it seems the NFL could see another team change cities soon.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Oakland Raiders will file relocation papers and are hoping to move to Las Vegas by the 2020 NFL season:

If the Raiders are given the green light to move from NFL owners, they would likely play at least the next two years in Oakland before relocating to Las Vegas for the 2020 season.

Rapoport also added Oakland is not making the kind of effort expected to keep a team from leaving:

The city of Oakland has made no progress to keep the team, sources say. It has not come up with a stadium proposal that league or independent sources believe is credible. At this point, it is only a matter of time before they officially leave.

Raiders owner Mark Davis has stated he would prefer to see the team stay in Oakland or in the nearby area, but with no stadium plan in place, had to look elsewhere. After being linked to Los Angeles as a possible destination, it appears Davis has settled on Las Vegas as the next home of his team. Once they file for relocation, the team will have several hoops to jump through, but the project has gained momentum in recent months and looks closer to getting done.

If the deal is completed, the Raiders would stay in Oakland for at least two more seasons while the stadium is being built. Las Vegas would then inherit an up-and-coming team who seems on the verge of making some serious noise in the postseason.
