With offseason training activities wrapping up, the Oakland Raiders will now begin to prepare for their mandatory three-day minicamp. The camp will conclude their offseason program and will set the team up for training camp later in the summer.
While Derek Carr’s rehab and contract situation plus Marshawn Lynch’s return have been making headlines this offseason, head coach Jack Del Rio has been busy preparing for the 2017 NFL season. Del Rio’s work with the team has earned him high praise around the league, notably from NFL legend and former Raiders head coach John Madden. According to Kyle Martin of Raiders, Madden has been impressed with how Del Rio has led this team:
“There was a time when the Raiders needed Jack Del Rio, that was exactly the perfect thing for them,” Madden said. “They needed him, he came in did exactly what he had to do, or more. I’m just so proud of him and the Raiders, and the way they’re playing.”
Along with Del Rio, general manager Reggie McKenzie has done an excellent job in building the team through the draft, grabbing Carr, Khalil Mack, and Amari Cooper. The star-studded young core, coupled with an effective offensive line, have made the Raiders one of the most exciting teams in the league and seem to be on the verge of a Super Bowl appearance.
Madden’s successful tenure with the Raiders made him the iconic figure he is today and his comments about Del Rio and the team are an indicator they are heading in the right direction. While Del Rio contends his team still has room to improve, legends like Madden have noticed the progress they have made in such a short period.
